Youtube takes advantage of Google to improve video upload speed

Feb 18

youtubeYouTube depend on parent company Google’s data center and network servers’s powerful cloud computing infrastructure to reduce the time the user released the video online.
YouTube engineers have been trying to solve the delay problem by multi-way and parallel processing technology and other means of improving the speed of computer processing upload videos. YouTube engineers Vijnan Shastri explained that the engineers decided to break for a large number of video clips, hundreds of thousands of computers to distribute processing tasks, the last video clip and then re-stitching.
Shastri  said: “We decided to  concerned about a large number of computers play a role in the same time, rather than improve the efficiency of a single computer, this is a very calm decision and we made it. Of course, this decision is only possible because of Google cloud computing facilities for usr povide a huge support. ”
Benefit from these enhanced measures, particularly within the Hydra project, Google, YouTube video uploads taking less than a minute to complete is 60%; video processing speed is 7 times in 2008, is 4 times half a year ago.
YouTube spokesman Chris Dale, said the company aims to reduce the delay time in seconds, rather than in minutes. First to reduce user frustration, and second, to reduce overall operating costs. Dell said: “The cost-cutting is not the same as money. To us, delays, cost and efficiency are equally important.”
With the shooting and uploading video to the growing popularity of the device, upload the video – especially HD video YouTube has become a pressing problem to be solved. YouTube said that the current uploaded every minute 35 hours of video, of which 20% of high-definition video, in 2008 the figure was only 3%.

in Cloud Storage age, you no longer possess data

Feb 17

cloud storageFor vendors, they have several reasons to step in the field of cloud storage:

1, strong user needs

Users need high capacity storage and convenient and efficient network share, and efficient coordination office. In these strong user demand driven, there must be more and more companies have joined to cloud storage, and even compete in the cloud.

2, low-cost storage media

Moore’s Law gives us the clear expectation of price and volume of electronic products, very often the development of technology even more exaggerated than that predicted by Moore’s Law. Storage medium is one such example.

A few years ago a 1.44MB floppy disk may took up to 1 $, and now you can buy a 8G flash memory, with10$.

The cheap prices of storage media for large capacity storage offers the possibility of cloud.

3, a clear profit model

Compared to such a cloud service like Twitter, cloud storage has a relatively more clear profit model.

A very easy way of profit is subscription. Here the “need” may be storage space, network traffic, computing capability. In short, in the field of cloud storage, there can be profitable in the current program.

4, data mining can be of value

The value of data is unlimited. the data stored in the cloud is of great value, companies can store files from the user to dig a lot of valuable information. We can say that all future commercial activity must rely on data as a judge, and the collection of data before data mining is the only way, so the major manufacturers have launched their own cloud storage products, trying to share a piece of cloud storage.
