Google hopes Nokia will choose Android

Google CEO Eric Schmidt on Tuesday said that if the choice of Nokia is Android, that Google had will be very happy. Schmidt said he hopes that one day Nokia will decide to do so, although Nokia has a partnership with Microsoft.

On Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, on an interview after the keynote speech, Schmidt said: “I hope that at some point in the future, Nokia would be willing to re-select the Android.”

Schmidt said that he and vice president of mobile platform of Android Andy Robin has been in a lot of discussions with Nokia, and Nokia said he understood Android operating system, but refused to disclose the negotiations between the two sides had reached any stage of .  Schmidt said: “I did have discussions with Nokia, but I will not disclose specific details.”

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop said on Tuesday, Microsoft will pay billions of dollars to get the Nokia “key vote” to support Windows Phone 7.

Asked whether the agreement between Nokia and Microsoft partnership to the smart phone business into a “three-horse race”, the Schmidt said: “They will have to let go.”

Schmidt also reiterated that Google has no intention to enter the media business. He said: “we can not enter an area which we do not understand the business, it’s very important.”
